September 2020 Home Decor SU Style

 

Today's project is a home decor item.  Most of us use our paper for cards or scrapbooks, but pretty paper can dress up many things around the house too.  I wanted something simple and quick for my dining room table.

Today's project is an altered candle holder with a ring of paper leaves at its base.  

Despite the fact that there's almost 2 dozen leaves on this project it actually went pretty fast. I think I completed it in under a half hour. There is a die to cut the leaves so that helped speed up the process.

Everyone needs a good leaf set and I like the versatility of Stampin'Up!'s Gather Together bundle. 

It actually took longer to crumple all the leaves than it did to cut them.  But of course crumpling them is what give it a realistic look. Otherwise it would just be layers of flat paper.

You can do this so easily with any candle stick and any color papers you have (the colors I used are listed at the bottom of this post). To provide a base for the leaves I cut a circle of cardboard with a hole in the middle and adhered the crumpled leaves to the cardboard filling in the gaps.

Add a little metallic bow to the top of the candle stick and voila!
Simple, sweet, seasonal and easy.

Home Decor with Stampin'Up!

Do you use your papercrafting for more than just cardmaking? If so you're going to love today's post because I'm participating in a Home Decor Blog Hop.

Our paper products can be used to create so many fun little decorations around the house. My project today is a shaker Snow Globe in a frame. Are you like me, I have a couple of seasonal shelves where I display little "pretties".

There's lots of little details that make this project special.  

• Stampin'Up!'s snowglobe domes have a double sticky edge that makes it easy to adhere to both sides of the window
• What's snow it its not the right shape?  The shaker pieces are Snowflake Sequins! how cool is that?
• The Shiny filigree die for the snowglobe base adds some class by itself. On this project I used the new Brushed Metallics which give it a woodgrain look, even classier.

• The green trees were diecut from Green Foil paper to help balance the shine on the project
• And the final subtle detail is the embossed trees behind the diecut trees

Do you ever have small children in your house?  I have grand kids and they love anything they can pick up, shake, move or manipulate.  This little framed snow globe will be on a shelf low enough for the grand kids to pick up and play with.

Halloween Scenes Mason Jars with Candy Corn

Do you decorate for Halloween?  Here are 2 easy ideas for Fall or Halloween table decorations made from empty glass jars. Fill a Mason Jar with Candy Corn and decorate the outside with fall or Halloween imagery.

The jar on the right uses die cut shapes from Halloween Scenes Edgelits Dies. I used the Wink of Stella clear glitter brush pen to add a little sparkle.  It was very subtle in real life but picked up some glare in this photograph.

The jar on the left is a large oval for the body and circles for the eyes.  The head is a square folded in half and tipped with the Pumpkin Pie Glimmer Paper for a beak.  A pair of fringe scissors works great on strips of paper to make the feathery tummy.

These projects were very easy to make and if you  have kids who like to craft its a great way to get them involved in holiday decorating.  The table below shows the product I used.
