Home Decor with Stampin'Up!

Do you use your papercrafting for more than just cardmaking? If so you're going to love today's post because I'm participating in a Home Decor Blog Hop.

Our paper products can be used to create so many fun little decorations around the house. My project today is a shaker Snow Globe in a frame. Are you like me, I have a couple of seasonal shelves where I display little "pretties".

There's lots of little details that make this project special.  

• Stampin'Up!'s snowglobe domes have a double sticky edge that makes it easy to adhere to both sides of the window
• What's snow it its not the right shape?  The shaker pieces are Snowflake Sequins! how cool is that?
• The Shiny filigree die for the snowglobe base adds some class by itself. On this project I used the new Brushed Metallics which give it a woodgrain look, even classier.

• The green trees were diecut from Green Foil paper to help balance the shine on the project
• And the final subtle detail is the embossed trees behind the diecut trees

Do you ever have small children in your house?  I have grand kids and they love anything they can pick up, shake, move or manipulate.  This little framed snow globe will be on a shelf low enough for the grand kids to pick up and play with.

Butterfly Shaker Card with Sequins

Here's a fun card - its a shaker card filled with sequins. You can make a shaker card with any shape, I used a butterfly die for this card.

 

If you're thinking of trying a shaker card I have a few suggestions. 

First thing to think about is placement of the images.  On this card I stamped the sentiment first and then diecut the shape. You can stamp the rest of the imagery around the sentiment and the hole. 

Second: regarding order of operations.  

• Decorate the front first - because it will be "lumpy" and impossible to stamp on after you've created the shaker part.
• Remember to adhere the window sheet to the back side of the hole BEFORE you line it with dimensionals - OK I confess, I've done that and you feel really dumb as you're ripping off the dimensionals.
• create your "well" for the shaker elements (sequins on this card) but fill it BEFORE you remove the sticky backing
• Use a separate sheet of paper over the hole to close it. Then attach it to the base.

Festive and Fun - Letter Perfect!

Do you enjoy cutting images?  What do you thinkof this card?  The images are from a set called: Festive and Fun. Among the ladies who attend the Stamp-a-Stack events here at my house in Stoughton, there is an on-going debate on whether they prefer to cut or to color. With this card they both win.

The colors and textures are festive too. I just love Christmas colors and they're so well done on this card. The background texture on the red was done with the new Star Burst Embossing Folder found in the Holiday Mini Catalog.

This was a Trade Card. One of the advantages of being a Demonstrator is the opportunity to participate in card trades. This is true whether you are a Business Demonstrator or a Hobby Demonstrator. A Hobby Demonstrator is essentially a discount buyer.

I am continually wowed by the top notch quality and amazing creativity of the ladies I trade with. This particular card was made by a fellow demonstrator, Norma Artman who lives in the nearby town of Deerfield. Did you notice the "O" in Jolly. Norma turned it into a shaker window using Stampin'UP!'s new nested Shaker Window Frames and the new Mica Flakes. Check out this stamp set and the shaker windows on page 28 of the new Mini Catalog.  You can see another card made with one of the larger window frames HERE. That window is filled with the Glassy Glitter.

Fall Cards for the October Stamp-a-Stack

Here are the Fall Cards we did for the October Stamp-a-Stack. I tried to make cards with images and colors for the fall, but I see there's one "stray" in the bunch.

We used some different products this time. Sometimes I find my self stuck in a rut and just using the same product time and again. I've been trying to stretch myself lately and use different products, so I wanted to give my stampers a chance to play with other products too.

Most recently I've been playing with the Treat Cups. If you've been following this blog then you may be aware of seeing several other posts about the Treat Cups. There are 2 shapes available: round and heart. They match a 1-3/4" circle punch and Stampin'UP!'s Full Heart Punch. We used the Round Treat Cup on the Sunflower Card. (upper left in the photo) The card we did at the Stamp-a-Stack is very similar to this card I made for a trade. I also used the sunflower on this card posted with the sunflowers from my daughter's wedding.

Two other new products we used are Stampin'UP!'s new Glitter Glass and the new Shaker Frames.

The Shaker Frames come as 6 sets of 6 different sized foam adhesive rings. That's 36 different rings total. We used them to make the penguin shaker card.

This card sparkles for several reasons: The Glitter Glass in the shaker window, the Self-Stick Rhinestones on the snowflakes and the paper itself is Shimmery White paper. 

The card itself is easy to make. 

• Emboss the Shimmery White piece using the Northern Flurry embossing folder
• Stamp the image - I used the penguin from Zoo Review
• Place a foam ring around the image
• Add some Glitter Glass to the ring
• Add the "LID" to the ring to keep the glitter in.
• Put the layer on the card base - I used Pool Party
• Add a few Self-Adhesive Rhinestones and voila!

Making the lid involves several layers. The bottom layer, closest to the foam ring, is a 2" acetate circle to keep the glitter contained. The next layer must have a hole so you can see the image. For the scallop we used the 1-3/8" circle punch for the actual window and the 2-3/8" Scallop Circle punch around it. I added a top ring to frame the window using the 1-3/8" circle punch for the hole in the middle and the 1-3/4" circle punch for the ring.  CAUTION: punch the inner hole (ie the window hole) first and then center the larger punch around the hole.
