The Winning Project: Made with Sleigh Ride Edgelits and Jingle All the Way Stamp Set

Our local demo group meets each time there's a new catalog. Its mostly a training meeting on the new product, but of course we're trading too and sharing projects we've made and one of our favorite events is the Card Contest. Drum roll please . . . here are the winners showing off their talent.

Stampin'UP! Demo Meeting Card contest winners
Terry S, Norma A, Jen D, Brenda H, me, Judy H and Rachel D

These people are so talented.  I'm so lucky to be part of such a creative group of people - and even more lucky to be able to take home samples of such super projects.

The First Place Card . . . the clear and away winner by a mile . . .  made by Brenda Harris

Card made with Stampin'UP! Sleigh Ride Edgelits and Jingle All the Way stamp set

Stampin'UP! Sleigh Ride Edgelits and Jingle All the Way stamp setBrenda put so much detail into her project. Her project features the Sleigh Ride Edgelits from the 2015 Holiday Catalog. There are 3 edgelits in the set: trees,  the sleigh and horse,  and the houses. Brenda used all 3 on her card. There is a separate matching stamp set which is where she got the sentiment on this card.

And I love how Stampin'UP! lets you bundle matching product, you save 15% when you buy them both.  The stamps are available in either wood mount or clear mount.

Go to my on-line store and put in the key word "Sleigh Ride Edgelit" or "Jingle All the Way" and you'll see all the options.

Brenda added so many other details that made this a real "wow" card

The Dazzling Details glitter glue swirled across the white pieces made the snow all sparkly and really catches the eye.

She used markers to color the sleigh and horse (WOW, the detail of the coloring is GREAT!).  The sleigh and trees were cut from white paper and the houses were cut from Basic Gray paper. Brenda used a White Gel pen to add snow to the roofs of the houses and even added yellow to the windows and black to the doors.  I am so impressed.  This card was definitely worthy of the first place win.

We had several categories in our contest - today I showcased the first place card, tomorrow you'll see the runner up cards and later in the week I'll show the winning projects in the other categories. Of course EVERYTHING is made with Stampin'UP! product.

If you see anything you like I'm happy to help you get the product or just to consult and explain further how the project was made.  Its all about having fun with our hobby and these projects are great.

Vase Card made with Edgelit Dies

Vase Card made with Stampin'UP! Edgelit Dies
This vase card is made using the Edgelit dies. Can you see the shape of the edgelit on the vase?  If not keep reading. I'll explain how we did it.

First a word about the flowers - these colors are really stunning together.  Its a combination of Wisteria Wonder (the light purple), Tempting Turquoise and Elegant Eggplant (the dark purple). Stampin'UP!'s unique matched color collections was the main feature that first attracted me to this company.  I love how the colors are carefully chosen so the combinations always look great together.

The flower shapes were cut with the new Floral Framelits.  I love being able to cut different size shapes of flowers and layer them. I used the same dies to decorate this bag. The little yellow flower centers were just punched with a 3/4" circle punch.

Now to explain how the Edgelit Dies make the vase. The edgelit dies are intended to make pretty edges on a card - like this one. What I did was use the edgelit twice, once on each side to cut the vase.  And here's a handy trick, use a Post-a-Note to hold the edgelit in place so it doesn't slide while you role it through the diecut machine. I also laid the paper on a piece of grid paper to ensure the edgelit was in the same position on each side. To give the vase a little texture we dry embossed using the Fancy Fan embossing folder.

Would you like to make this type of project? We made this card at the August Big Shot Class.  I love teaching the classes at my house. I have such a great group of stampers who come to these events. If you are local you should join us - you'd meet some wonderful people. Your next opportunity to take a class with me is this coming Sunday afternoon or Monday evening for the September Stamp-a-Stack. Click Here to Register

Edgelits and Matching Embossing Folder

Card made with Stampin'UP! Edgelits and Matching Embossing Folder
One of the things I really appreciate about Stampin'UP! is how well the different products coordinate. For example, the matching Edgelit Die and Embossing folder used on this card. This is one of the projects we did at the Big Shot class this week.

The Big Shot part of this card was the embossed line running across the front edge of the card and the matching shape cut below the line.

You want to be sure the embossed line is level with the edge of the card. I just make sure the edge of the embossing folder is touching the edge of the card, then I know the 2 are parallel. How to use Stampin'UP!'s Border Embossing Folders
Sometimes you get them perfectly lined up and then they slip as they go through the machine. To prevent this use a post-a-note to keep them in position. How to use Stampin'UP!'s Edgelit Dies - shown by StampLadyKatie
I kind of eyeball it to match the shape of the Edgelit Die  with the Embossed line already on the card. Then to ensure they are parallel I lay them on lined paper and make sure the Edgelit Die is the same distance down from the edge of the card. Again, secure with Post-a-notes before running through the Big Shot. How to use Stampin'UP!'s Edgelit Dies - shown by StampLadyKatie
And, I tried doing them in reverse order, cutting first and then embossing the matching line. It worked equally well either way.

What great product!  I really love how simple and elegant this card is.

Check out the new Edgelit Dies

Have you seen Stampin'UP!'s new Edgelit Dies?  These new dies are perfect for adding an elegant edge to a project. The edgelit die was used on this card to cut the curved edge on the bottom of the front flap.

Isn't this little girl sweet? She reminds me of the old Betsy McCall paper dolls. My sister and I couldn't wait for the new addition of the magazine to arrive each month. The image of the girl is from a stamp set called: Greeting Card Kids.  Check out the catalog on-line for more great stamp sets.

All the cards on this post are Trade Cards I got from sister demonstrators. The card above was made by Lori Verdon. Below you'll see 2 more cards, both made by Terry Schultz. Terry and Lori are just 2 of the great women I've met through my involvement with Stampin'UP!

Terry was very creative with the edgelit die. On her first card she used the edgelit die to make an interesting border on a vertical element for the card.  Now check out the 2nd card. She used it on both sides of the vertical element and cut off the top half to make a vase. WOW!  This is what I love about being part of a group. You get so many amazing ideas.
