Leaf Shaker Card - the October Monthly Craft Kit Project

Sometimes you just like to have someone else do the thinking for you.  I do enjoy the creative aspect of papercrafting, but sometimes I just like to make pretty stuff and I don't want to have to think too hard. That's part of why I like getting Stampin'UP!'s monthly craft kit.

Each month its a surprise: We never know ahead of time what the project will be - sometimes its cards and sometimes its some other paper project. But its always something fun, and how cool is this - the October 2016 project was a Shaker Card!

There's 2 Key things to making a Shaker Card

1. You can use any shape hole . . . this card uses a leaf shape,
   but you need the acetate window sheet to cover the hole and to see through
2. You can fill the shaker space with any small item . . . this card uses sequins,
   but you need an adhesive with some dimension so they have room to move around
   Stampin'UP!'s Adhesive strips are designed for making Shaker Cards.

Totally Trees for Fall

Autumn in Wisconsin is so beautiful, truly inspiring for those of us who love fall colors.  And here's a card that shows off some of those colors. 

This card was designed by Jana Secord as one of the Make & Take projects for our fall local demo meeting. You can see all 10 Make & Take Projects here. . . this is our local demo site but its not private, anyone can see it. 

For this card we stamped and fussy cut the trees and then overlaid them onto the card. And I love how she used the Cable Knit embossing folder for the background.  With fall here our temperatures are starting to drop and its definitely sweater weather now.

Deep Colors for Lighthearted Leaves

Fall is such a beautiful time of year, if only it could last a little longer so we could enjoy all the rich colors of the leaves.  

Here in Wisconsin most of the leaves are already gone. But my husband and I had a chance to spend last week in the Charlotte/Asheville area where we got to enjoy the colors all over again. 

This gorgeous shot was taken at a State Park by Lake Lure, NC called Chimney Rock.  Lots of stairs to climb to get this view, but absolutely well worth the hike.

Apparently I came home feeling very colorful.

I like using this lay-out and had wanted to play with the "4-square" design using a leaf stamp. I decided to use the colors for the background rather than the leaves themselves. What do you think?

The leaves are from the Lighthearted Leaves stamp set. They're designed for coloring, so I'm thinking of playing with this card and switching it up a bit, maybe stamp on white and color each leaf. 

There are lots of different colors of cardstock used on this project, but if you're like me I keep at least 1 package of every color on hand. That way when I'm feeling creative I don't get frustrated by a lack of basic supplies.

Rock and Roll Technique

its one of the cards we did at our Community Center Events this month.

If you're local to the Madison/Dane County area please join us at one of our Community Center Events.  They're held at the Senior centers, but you don't have to be a Senior to attend (no one will ask your age). You just have to be free during the day. I do monthly events at 4 different centers: Oregon, Fitchburg, Verona and Monona.  The projects are the same at each location so it doesn't matter where you choose. 

And if you're looking for a daytime group to join you can't go wrong with these people.  My stampers are wonderful, friendly helpful people and you'll love getting to know them.

Dropping by to say "Acorny" Hi

As we near the end of October it seems that most of my projects are related to the holidays: Halloween, Thanksgiving or Christmas. So I thought I'd take a little break today to make a generic card who's only purpose is to say "Hi". 

I confess I've been rightly accused of being a "punny" person, so this sentiment really resonated with me. Get it?  Acorns drop down from the tree.  OK, maybe you're just groaning instead of laughing, but I think its cute.

Here's a close-up of the acorn so you can see how well the punch works with the stamp set. This is one thing I really appreciate about Stampin'UP!  They're doing a really good job of coordinating products.  Its always been wonderful to have colored product coordinate, but now we're also seeing all sorts of stamp sets with matching framelits or punches like this one.

The trim on the side is Stampin'UP's new Corrugated paper. There is a tool available for crimping paper but it makes wider and deeper corrugations - which makes it pricier to mail. I like how thin this paper is.  And if you're like me, I was always frustrated trying to get my paper to go through the crimper straight.  These ridges are perfectly parallel and straight.  They're available as 12x12 sheets, 2 white and 2 craft colored for $7 a pack. What a deal.
