I'm definitely feeling the love today. Or at least the love of the
inlay die cut technique.
These two silver glimmer paper hearts are inlaid on the pink strip.
Inlaid means that you cut a matching hole and set the die into that hole
instead of making it a new layer on top the rest.
The reason I chose that technique for this project is that I wanted the white to show through the openings in the swirls of the hearts. If I had just glued the silver heart on top the pink strip we'd see pink showing through the open spaces in the swirls.
I'm so happy with the contrast of this project. The pink is very intense on the actual project and the silver glimmer paper stands out beautifully.
Tips on the color match: I made my pink strip from glossy paper and lightly sponged on Lovely Lipstick ink. I also colored my rhinestones with the Lovely Lipstick Blends marker to match. The rhinestones are plastic so they are a non-porous surface. Which means you can't color them with the Classic Markers (which are water based) but you CAN color them with the Blends (which are alcohol markers). Yay - thank-you Stampin'UP! for providing us one more way to color coordinate our projects!
A few other hints to pass along if you try this.
- The heart shape is very flexible because it has the large opening in the center,
so be sure to pull the edges of the heart tight back against the pink strip
- Also remember to save the large pink piece from the center of the heart to complete the strip
Inlay is a really cool technique and also pretty easy - especially if you pick the right dies (not too many small parts). What I like about doing an inlay is that its one of those techniques where people stare at your project for a minute trying to figure out how you did it. I love those "
how did you do that" comments.
