Rock and Roll Technique

I posted this card a few days ago -
its one of the cards we did at our Community Center Events this month.

Fall card made with Stampin'UP!'s Sept 2015 Paper Pumpkin stamp set and using the Rock-n-Roll Technique

Today I wanted to share this video I found on the Stampin'UP! YouTube Channel
It shows how to do the Rock-n-Roll Technique.
Watch that wrist action . . . the whole video is short, only 0.47 min.  Enjoy!

Cool technique right? If you're local to the Madison/Dane County area please join us at one of our Community Center Events.  They're held at the Senior centers, but you don't have to be a Senior to attend (no one will ask your age). You just have to be free during the day. I do monthly events at 4 different centers: Oregon, Fitchburg, Verona and Monona.  The projects are the same at each location so it doesn't matter where you choose.

And if you're looking for a daytime group to join you can't go wrong with these people.  My stampers are wonderful, friendly helpful people and you'll love getting to know them.

Bring your own adhesive and bring a camera - I always have tons of displays.

Thanks for Stopping by: Scroll down and browse past posts. If you see anything you like I'm happy to help you get the product or just to consult and explain further how the project was made . . . its all about having fun with our hobby.

Paper Pumpkin Sept 2015 Alternate Projects

Have you put together your September Paper Pumpkin Kit yet?  If you have no idea what I'm talking about, "Paper pumpkin" is the name of Stampin'UP!'s monthly craft kit.  Just $19.95 (which already includes shipping) plus what ever your state tax is. The kits are intended provide a fun evening of playtime.
  • They're different each month.
  • They're super cute.
  • And they include everything you need to make the project
    - including stamps and ink!  All you need is adhesive.

The Sept 2015 Paper Pumpkin project is these brooms.
They make a great Halloween table decoration.
The brooms are also a super cute way to give a candy gift.
Here's a 1.4 min video showing how quick and easy it is to assemble the brooms

The projects are cute - but the best thing is that you're building up a collection of stamps and little ink pads that you can use for other projects.  Here's 2 more cards I made using the stamps from the Sept. 2015 Kit.

The small size of the stamps in the set makes them perfect for creating backgrounds.
Don't you think this is a great fall color combo? Cajun Craze, Pumpkin Pie and Old Olive.

The projects don't have to be for Halloween either.  They make great fall cards.
I got the 2-tone color effect on the leaves using the "rock-n-roll" technique. The concept of Rock and Roll is that you ink the stamp with a light color and then roll the edges of the stamp in a darker color ink. Its a quick way to add 2 colors to the stamp before it contacts the paper.  Here's another card made using the Rock-n-Roll technique

Check back later for more projects using these stamps.
I've got one with a surprise inside to show tomorrow.

Would you like to get your own monthly craft kit in the mail?
Its something different and super cute each month. Here's the direct link to sign-up
There's no harm trying it out just so see if you like it - even though you're "subscribing" there is no minimum requirement. You can stop the subscription anytime.
Sign-up now and see what you think.  They're relaxing and fun.

Sheltering Tree with a little Rock and Roll Shading

Do you have a favorite tree for shade? I'm going to start today's post by saying I'm now eager for a nice hot day to sit under a sheltering tree and enjoy some summer shade.  Our high today of 7 degrees (yes, single digits) does not motivate one to spend time outside under a tree. So I'm dreaming of when there's a scene like this outside my Wisconsin window.

Card made with Stampin'UP!'s Sheltering Tree Stamp set

We did this card to illustrate our Technique of the Month for February, which was Rock and Roll. Notice the 2 colors in the grass under the tree.  The concept of Rock and Roll is that you ink the stamp (the grass in this case) with a light color and then roll the edges of the stamp in a darker color ink. For this project its a quick way to add some shade on the grass under the tree.

Are you local? and if so, do you stamp with me?  You can see my class schedule here. I teach lots of classes, some in my home, some at 4 of the area Senior Centers, and I do private classes too if you'd like to arrange something.  I invite you to join me stamping.

Sign-up for a class or schedule a private class for you and your friends.

At the Senior Centers we do a "Technique of the Month" and people make an instruction card along with their projects. The cards are a nice way to remember a new technique.

Cards made with Stampin'UP!'s Sheltering Tree Stamp set

By the way, the tree is from a new stamp set called Sheltering Tree. Sheltering Tree is a photopolymer set, which means its made of a clear material so its really easy to get exact placement of the tulips on the flower stems. Gosh I can't wait for tulips in my yard!
Stampin'UP!'s Sheltering Tree Stamp set

Sheltering Tree is a nice all year round set. While the 4 sentiments are general in nature they each work especially well with one season. The extra stamps include leaves, a rake, flower stems and flowers, a swing and the parts to make a bicycle in 2 colors. And just look, don't you think that stamp I used for the grass would make nice clouds?

Here are 2 more cards made with the Sheltering Tree Stamp set
I got these from Rachel Durtschi as part of a demonstrator trade.

I love the spring colors on this card: Crisp Cantaloupe and Pear Pizzazz.

Its not exactly bicycle weather here today. Given that its one of the coldest days this winter when I'm writing this I'll take my shelter in my stamp room.  No matter when you read this or where you are, I hope you have a special place to craft and that it provides some shelter for you to enjoy some quiet creative time.
