Merry Moose Sponged Scene and Tricky Tree Grass

Last week when I posted the video of 14 different cards made with the Merry Moose stamp set I promised to go back and make separate videos explaining some of the techniques used on several of the cards. Today's blog post will explain a few tricks involved with the sponged sunset scene on this card.

There are several tips and tricks about the sponging that are worth mentioning. But you're especially going to want to know how to stamp the grass . . . because if you look closely at the stamp set you'll notice there is not a grass stamp.

This 6 minute video shows how to create the grass by turning the tree sideways and masking.  There are several other tips and tricks you may also find interesting.

You can do such a variety of projects, this set is not just for Christmas.  Merry Moose  is for anyone who loves the outdoors or knows someone who loves the outdoors.

Sponging a Misty Forest Scene

I'm playing a little catch-up this week with projects made with the Merry Moose stamp set. Awhile back I posted a video showing 14 different cards made with the Merry Moose set, including this card with a misty forest scene.

  

In my opinion everyone needs a good evergreen tree stamp 

and the Merry Moose stamp set has 2 different size evergreen trees.

The thing that is special about today's card is the misty background. 

The scene is easy to create, simply sponge over your stamped trees

to fill in the space and to blur the stamped image.

Note: it has to be art sponges, a kitchen sponge is not flexible enough.

 Start looking through your stamp sets and decide what scenes you'd like to create.

Sponging is a fun and easy way to get a different look from your stamps.

Faux Watercolor

Look at the softness of the branches on this tree.  Hard to believe it was actually a stamped image right?  This look is called Faux Watercolor.

Faux watercolor is super easy.  You simply stamp the image and then trace over it with a wet paint brush or aqua painter. Personally I prefer the aqua painter for this type image because it has a long and very pointed brush tip. And of course the water is contained so there's no mess.

The process is very simple, but if you're like me you might appreciate actually seeing it happen rather than just understanding the process. Check out this 2 minute video showing the Faux Watercolor technique.

Merry Moose Pair Says Hello

When I invest my money in  a new stamp set there are several things that make me especially pleased with my purchase.  One is when there is a coordinating die or punch to help make my life easier and the other is when I find a way to stretch my use of the set.  That's why I'm really glad I invested in Stampin'UP!'s Merry Moose stamp set and matching Moose Punch. 

This is perfect for anyone who loves the woods and the outdoors.

Its perfect for masculine cards, but its versatile enough to use for anyone.

There are several ways to stretch the use of the Merry Moose Stamp Set and Punch.

1. Instead of using designer paper you can use one of the stamps to create your own background
2. When you punch an image you can be flexible with the direction it faces.
   don't you LOVE that copper paper?  

Here's similar card with just one moose.

I really do love the copper paper 

and it makes a great frame for the moose focal point.

Here's a trick

instead of using a large piece of the copper sheet as a frame, I simply backed the moose focal point with 4 small strips of the copper paper.  It was a great way to use up small scraps and gives an really interesting look to the frame.

As long as we're talking tricks, did you notice the rhinestones on the two cards?  The first card with the pair of moose I just used the plain rhinestone. For the second card with the single moose I colored the rhinestone to match the copper paper.  You can color the plastic rhinestones with an alcohol marker like Stampin Blends.  It's an easy way to get a professional coordinated look to your projects.


I've really had fun with the moose set and ended up making
over 2 dozen moose cards which you can see in this short video.
