Faux Watercolor

Look at the softness of the branches on this tree.  Hard to believe it was actually a stamped image right?  This look is called Faux Watercolor.

Faux Watercolor card using Stampin'UP!'s Merry Moose Stamp Set and Aqua painters

Faux watercolor is super easy.  You simply stamp the image and then trace over it with a wet paint brush or aqua painter. Personally I prefer the aqua painter for this type image because it has a long and very pointed brush tip. And of course the water is contained so there's no mess.

How to do the Faux Watercolor technique using Aqua painters and the tree from Stampin'UP!'s Merry Moose Stamp Set

The process is very simple, but if you're like me you might appreciate actually seeing it happen rather than just understanding the process. Check out this 2 minute video showing the Faux Watercolor technique.

The tree on this card is from the Merry Moose Stamp set - which has 2 different size evergreens as well as the moose. If you appreciate north woods imagery  like the moose, the trees and that cute little racoon, then check out this video with over a dozen cards made with the Merry Moose stamp set.

How to Color Glimmer Paper

Glimmer paper is awesome! It can add a really special bit of sparkle to your projects. Check out this project with a sparkly red rose.

I started with Very Vanilla card stock. The black layer started as a rectangle 1/4" smaller, 4" x 5-1/4" that I cut on a diagonal.

And that gorgeous sentiment is from the Rose Wonder Stamp set. The sentiments in that set are such a beautiful font, I love the style lettering!

What do you think of that sparkly red rose?

Stampin'UP! sells glimmer paper in 4 basic colors:   Red - Silver - Gold - and - White.
And this spring, the new Occasions catalog also offers us a pink (Blushing Bride) Glimmer paper.

HELPFUL HINT:  You'll have more success die cutting glimmer paper if you cut from the back side. The glitter on the front is challenging for the waver thin dies to cut through.  Of course if its a word you need to cut from the front.

Did you know you can color the white (Dazzling Diamonds) Glimmer paper?

I  created the green glimmer paper for this card  myself.  You can use a variety of tools on glimmer paper. I used Aquapainters on this card, but on past projects I've colored glimmer paper successfully with all of the following:
**markers
In fact you can even heat emboss glimmer paper - but be careful because the paper has a plastic backing.

Isn't it fun that you can make Glimmer Paper now in any color you want.
One more way to ensure your projects are color coordinated.

Thanks for Stopping by: Take a minute and browse previous posts. If you see anything you like I'm happy to help you get the product or just to consult and explain further how the project was made . . . its all about having fun with our hobby.
