Happy Syttende Mai - today's card is inspired by the beautiful patters of the traditional Norwegian Bunad.
I live in a down with a strong Norwegian heritage and we celebrate Syttende Mai each year with a weekend jam packed with activities ranging from a canoe race, to craft fairs, the Ugly Troll contest - and - performances by our high school's Norwegian Dancers.
The artwork on a bunad is indicative of the region of Norway the person comes from. While these kids may not all have ties to Norway, their outfits are authentic. The beautiful decorations were the inspiration for today's card.
My family hails from a region where the bunad would have a ref floral pattern on black. I chose the large flower spray from the Hand-Penned Petals set, it is heat embossed in gold on black cardstock.
Coloring on black cardstock is a challenge. The ink from a marker is liquid and would sink into the space between the paper fibers. You get better results using colored pencils.
Another feature of the bunad is a white blouse often decorated with lace. To simulate this on the card I used the new Stitched Greenery Die. This metal plate "cuts" a beautiful pattern in the paper.
