Host a Party and Earn Tons of Free Stuff

Would you like to earn FREE Stampin'UP! product?  Why not host a Stampin'UP! Workshop? A Stampin'UP! party is just like a Tupperware Party or Pampered Chef Party, except your guests will get to make something while they're there.

Sale-a-Bration is a great time to be a Hostess. Stampin-UP! already has some great Hostess benefits and Sale-a-bration offers even more. As with any other "party plan" direct sales company, the hostess benefits are tied to sales at the event.

We made Valentines at the last Workshop. I love doing workshops for other people. I love meeting new people and helping my hostess earn free product.

Sales were good at Brenda's party so she will end up getting
**$65 of free product,
**Free Tote Bag
**a Sale-a-Bration Hostess Bundle (which is 3 things from the Sale-a-Bration catalog)
**and one more thing from the catalog at half price. That half-price item can be anything!, even the Big Shot or the Marker set.

WOW!  That's a LOT of stuff to get and all she'll be paying is half the price of 1 item.  Can you imagine picking 1 item from the catalog, paying half-price for it and getting another $65 worth of stuff FREE! That is the normal benefit for her party. Now during Sale-a-bration she gets even more . . . the tote bag and 3 more Sale-a-bration items in the bundle.

Have you scheduled YOUR event yet?  Get out your your calendar and pick your date and call me! 608-220-3450, or contact me by email.  I take care of all the workshop details - all you need to do is provide the guests and a light snack.

If you are not local to the Madison area and you'd still like to earn Hostess Benefits, then contact me about doing a Book Party.

Fancy Folds Card Class - Telescope Card

We did a Telescope Card at the January Fancy Folds Class. At the Fancy Folds classes we make cards that do more than just open like a book. There is a big "wow" factor when you give these cards to someone and they suddenly realize the engineering behind the card.  I love giving people these special cards and watching their faces as they're amazed by what the card does.

How to make a telescope card - by StampLadyKatie

The concept of a Telescope card is very simple: you choose a shape and cut 3-4 layers at different sizes. Then you attach the layers with brads. The trick is that the brads only hold 2 layers - not all of them. And you place alternate brads on opposite sides of the project.

This image shows the idea using squares but you can use any shapes: circles, ovals, hearts . . .   Try it with the new Framelits dies. (put the word framelits in the search box to see these dies)

We did our Telescope card with circles and made this charming Snowman Card.  Isn't he cute!  And we hid a little secret message on his tummy.

Note that the arms point in different directions when the card is open versus when its closed.  Who do you know that would just be charmed by this little guy?

He is made with a variety of circle dies and punches. The embossing is Stampin'UP!'s Northern Flurry Embossing Folder.  The hat is made with the Curly Label Punch and the Word Window Punch and his arms are made with the Snowflake Punch.  I'll try to make a "recipe" card for him but shoot me an email if you want more detailed information about the punches and dies I used.

Convention Report

These last few days at Leadership Convention have been great! There is a really special feel in the downtown convention center area of San Antonio. The Riverwalk is an exciting vibrant place that adds a special energy to this event. The convention itself has been great for many reasons:
  • I've met some amazing, fun, talented women.
  • Seen some totally fantastic cards and other projects.
  • Learned lots of "secrets" about upcoming changes to product lines and catalogs.
  • We get lots of free give-aways including a stamp set from the next big catalog.
  • We've been served really elegant meals!
  • and of course we've gotten some great business ideas
I think the best part has been meeting new friends. There are so many wonderful and talented people here. And the Stampin'UP! staff is so friendly and helpful. Here is a photo of me with my roommates and our stamping buddies, and with us is Spencer Willis, the Marketing Manager of Stampin'UP! Are you surprised to see the Marketing Director of a company as large as StampinUP! wearing an apron??? Don't be. Our company is all about service and the company executives lead by example.

I have to tell you this is a great company to be part of. If you've ever thought about starting your own business with a direct sales company there are lots of reasons to choose Stampin'UP! Feel free to contact me with any questions:  about stamping - about this convention - or about the business.

Leadership 2012 - Day 1

I'm writing from Leadership Convention in San Antonio. I arrived yesterday so I could get settled in before the big event. This city is great. We took a River Trip and saw the Alamo. Beautiful city.

The real activities start today. Here is a photo of the Bags they gave us. This is one of the perks of attending demonstrator events. I always enjoy going to Stampin'UP! conventions. Its just wonderful being with so many energetic talented people. This week will be great.

This will be a busy, fun filled productive week. I'll have lots to share when I come back.

Trade Secrets: Hearts Framelits and Embossed Hearts

card made sith Stampin'UP!s Outlined Occasions Sale-a-bration Stamp set and the new Adorning Accents Embossing Folder. Made by Stamp Lady KatieHere is one of my Trade cards and its really no secret how it was made. The two hearts were cut with the new nested hearts Framelit Dies. The new mini catalog has 2 sets of framelits: hearts and labels. I've already done 2 posts on projects made with the labels framelits. This one of a 3x3 gift card and this one with a designer paper layer.

These dies are very easy to work with, more on them later, but for now I'll just say I'm really glad Stampin'UP! added the Framelits to the product line.

On this card the inner heart has the word Love from a set called Outlined Occasions. This is a Sale-a-bration set which you can get for FREE with a qualifying purchase during Sale-a-bration.

Wondering how I got the bottom strip of hearts? They were created with a new embossing folder found in the new Mini catalog.

How about the other Dazzling Details? Did you notice the sparkle on this card? First I used our new glitter glue (called Dazzling Details) to trace the dotted line in the image. Then I sprayed the whole card with Vanilla Shimmer Smooch

Ready for a bad pun?  OK, let me explain the title of today's post. This is one of my "trade" cards for Leadership convention and I just told you the "secrets" of how I made it - so now you know the "trade secrets".

Having fun here in San Antonio.

Decor Elements to Decorate my Bags

My bags are packed, if you are reading this Tuesday then I'm probably on an airplane as you are reading this. I'm headed to San Antonio for the Stampin'UP! Leadership Convention. I am so excited. Events like this provide so much motivation as well as product knowledge. All the speakers are so engaging, they really make the event fun. And with thousands of demos all in the same room I just can't even describe the positive energy from just being there.

The event is more than just speeches - there will be hands on activities there too. AND we get 2 FREE stamp sets with our convention registration. Just one more advantage of being a Demonstrator.

Have you thought about being a demonstrator?
  • Do you love stamping and find yourself talking to your friends about the projects you do?
  • Have you ever invited your friends over for a fun afternoon of stamping?
  • Do people ask you to make cards or scrapbooks for them?
  • Have you ever collected orders from your friends so you could place a big group order (and by the way if its more than $150 YOU get Hostess Benefits!)?
If so you are a Demonstrator in the making.

How do you become a Demonstrator? Simply buy the Starter Kit. There are 2 options: one includes the My Digital Studio scrapbooking program and fewer stamps, the other has more stamping supplies without the software. Both kits can be customized to fit your interests and to ensure you don't duplicate on items you already have.

And, by the way, to run this as a business you DO NOT need to have answered yes to these stamping questions. If you are looking for a business opportunity I can teach you what you need to know about stamping. This is a great hobby with a strong following and strong potential for sales.

"If I buy the starter kit do I have to be a demo?" Actually I get asked this question a lot. The answer is no. The starter kit is a group of products (ink pads, markers, stamps, paper . . .) designed for a new demonstrator be all set to show the range of our products. I've had several people buy it just because is is a good starting point for a beginner stamper.

Are you worried about how to begin the business? Don't be worried. You will be well supported
  • Stampin'UP! has a corporate program for new demonstrators.
  • There is a demonstrator website with a wealth of information and an online community of demonstrators ready to jump in and offer advice as needed.
  • And if you sign up with me I also maintain a website just for my recruits. It contains business information, product information and stamping skills and technique information as well as lots of photos for ideas.
  • Worried about not living near me? You'll fine a wealth of information on both the company site and on my website. And I am always available to answer your questions by phone or by email.
I'd love to talk with you to see what you are thinking and to answer your questions. You can contact me at 608-220-3450 or send me an email.

Benefits of being a demonstrator
  1. Work your own schedule - as much or a little as you like
  2. Easy minimums: you need only $300 in sales every 3 months
  3. People oriented business - you build strong positive connections with your customers
  4. Personal discount of 20% (and higher based on sales).
  5. Earn Hostess benefits on your personal purchases.
  6. Conventions and Incentive trips
  7. Exclusive demonstrator on-line community like Splitcoaststampers, but only SU product
  8. Monthly magazine
  9. Strong, active local group for face-2-face support
10. My personal website for on-line support.

Are you still reading?  That means you have some interest. So . . .
Think about yourself in this role.  Here's my story: When I bought my kit I knew it would be several years before I was ready to run it as a business. I bought the kit because it was on sale but I really felt that being a demonstrator would take too much time from my career and that I'd have to wait until I retired to launch my stamping business.  - - - I was wrong. Once people at work found out I was a "demonstrator" they asked me to do some events during our lunch break. So I started bringing in 2 cards on Tuesdays. The regular once-a-week nature of the event built up a following. When I switched site locations I started doing the events in my home monthly AND at my new site. The result? More people and a business.

I did not have to wait til I retired to start. And the fact that I needed to create 2 easy cards a week really helped develop my stamping skills. I can't tell you how much my skills improved from this "forced practice". If you're like me, you thrive on the compliments of others and this is what drove me to continue.

This could happen to you too. Imagine yourself doing this at your work, or with your neighbors or church friends. Start talking with your friends and neighbors and co-workers about stamping. Carry a few cards around with you to show people. You'll be surprised at the people who already stamp and love to talk about it or the people who've never stamped and have an interest.

Still reading?  Write down your questions and then call me 608-220-3450. I'll answer all your questions. You owe it to yourself to at least get your questions answered.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Mixed Bunch of Blossoms and a Matching Punch

Don't you love having punches to match a stamp set?  The new occasions mini has a new punch - the Blossom Punch. Its a BIG flower with ruffled edges. There's also a new stamp set called Mixed Bunch, which is 3 different flower shapes that match the punch. There are also 3 gorgeous smaller circle images that you can use for the center of the flowers. I think the top set of petals with the top center would make a beautiful sunflower, don't you?

What? You haven't seen the new mini catalog yet?   Use these links to see it on-line.

This was one of the cards we did at the January Stamp-a-Stack. I offered people a choice of colors and most chose to make one of each. You can see how well the stamped image fits into the punch. I posted a few other pictures of this punch and stamp set a few days ago.

Card made with Stampin'UP!'s Mixed Bunch stamp set and the Blossom Punch Card made with Stampin'UP!'s Mixed Bunch stamp set and the Blossom Punch
There are lots of little extras on this card: the layering on the center of the flower, the layer behind the Designer Paper and the little scalloped edging along the top strip of the designer paper. By the Way, that tiny scalloped edge is a strip cut using the Dotted Scallop Border Punch, we taped most of it behind the Designer Paper strip and just left 1 edge exposed. What do you think? Sweet little border isn't it?
  • Do you enjoy making cards like you've seen on this website? Check my events calendar for classes that match your schedule.
  • Want to introduce stamping to your friends? I have a great "Newbie" Workshop that I can bring to your house. Contact me for details (608-220-3450)
  • Mark Jan 24th on your Calendars - the start of Sale-a-bration. Get a FREE Sale-a-bration item for each $50 order you place. You can order on-line HERE or email me with your order.
I'm off to a Stampin'UP! Leadership Convention tomorrow. I'm headed off to beautiful San Antonio. This is my first Leadership event and I'm really excited. There will be lots of motivating workshops and speakers and hundreds of samples on display. I am always so wow'd by what I see at the big summer convention, the world is full of some really talented and creative people. I'll try to post some pictures of what I see when I'm there - I think you'll be impressed too. More to come this week . . .

Wedding Wishes for an Easy Event with all the Perfect Details!

We have another wedding this year and my wish is for another easy event. If you follow this blog then you know that my daughter Dana got married this summer. We made a lot of the decorations, place cards and invitations and everything went perfectly. My other daughter Sara just announced her engagement so now we have another wedding. Love it!

In honor of the last "easy event", this card is made with a stamp set called Easy Events. In fact, its a really easy card too.  Here are the details.
  • The image is stamped in Staz-ON because I used markers to color the birds and flowers.
  • The background pink piece was embossed using the Perfect Details Texture Plate in the Big Shot.
  • The paper ribbon was made with the Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border Punch.
Today is the big Bridal Show in Madison. I'm going with my daughter, her fiance and bridesmaids. It should be a really fun afternoon. Keep tuned for posts about the decorations and invites because they'll be hand-made.

Sale-a-bration Celebration

Sale-a-bration is almost here. Stampin'UP!'s big "event of the year" is certainly a reason for a celebration! It begins January 24th and runs through March.

During this event each $50 purchase of catalog product earns you a FREE item from the Sale-a-bration catalog.

This year's Sale-a-bration Catalog contains a mix of exclusive items along with some items from the regular catalog. The exclusive items include stamp sets, brads, ribbon and papers. I've been having tons of fun with the Outlined Occasions stamp set. Obviously, since I used it on both these cards.  I colored the letters on one card and left them plain on the other.  Wait til you see the catalog, this is a really cool set. One of the words is LOVE so its perfect for Valentine's Day.  This is one of the exclusive Sale-a-bration sets.

Some of the Sale-a-bration items are actually regular catalog item
- like the Triple Treat Flower stamp used on the first card below. This is such a versatile stamp because you can use it with 3 different punches!

What's on your wishlist?  Have you been thinking about getting the Big Shot?  That would earn you 2 FREE sale-a-bration items. Are there some special stamp sets you've been wishing you had. Buying them during Sale-a-bration could earn you a free set - like the cute Outlined Occasions sentiment set used on these cards.

Its actually pretty easy to create a $50 order just by re-stocking on consumables. Now is the time to take inventory of your papers, ribbons, adhesives and embellishments. You'd be re-stocking anyway so do it during Sale-a-bration and get a bonus item.

And the best thing is you can shop on-line 24/7. Your order will be delivered directly to you. Super easy.

Share the Joy of Stamping - host a workshop for your friends to introduce them to this awesome craft. Sale-a-bration is a great way to get started and I have some practical beginner kits to suggest for the novice stampers.  Contact me today to discuss your event.

Let me know if you did not get a Sale-a-bration catalog in the mail. It will be available on-line on the 24th. And of course you can view the Main Catalog and the Occasions Mini on-line now.

Big Wish for the Season

The snow is finally here! Our big wish for this winter season has been to actually have some snow. And now its finally here. We got a few inches yesterday and last night - enough that Dave has to plow.

I love looking out at the snow covered trees and watching the birds at the feeding station. Our son-in-law, Jake, helped Dave make the station several years ago. Actually  it would be more correct to say that Dave helped Jake make it.

My recent cards seem to have reflected this connection with snow. The two shown below are both from the January Stamp-a-Stack last weekend. Together they say "Wish Big" (for some snow) and "Thanks" (because now its here).

Card made with Stampin'UP! set: Season of Friendship  Card made with Stampin'UP! Sale-a-bration set: Outlined Occasions and the Triple Doily Punch
I really like this tree stamp. Its from a set called Season of Friendship and the bird and the snowflakes are also part of the set. The sentiment is from a set called Short and Sweet. We used the Word Window Punch and the Modern Label Punch to layer the sentiment. The red layer behind the sentiment balances the color of the bird in the opposite corner.

The card is made on a base of Crumb Cake. We used scraps of white paper and tore the edges to make it look like mounds of snow. The tree is stamped in Chocolate Chip and the snowflakes in Whisper White. The white ink is a pigment ink and takes a while to dry so it was one of the last things added to the card. The very last thing was the line of Dazzling Details along the top edge of the snow. This is Stampin'UP!'s new glitter glue and its perfect for making a sparkly snow crust.  BTW: one more "detail", we also used a white gel pen along the top edge of the branches to make it look like snow on the branches.  This was one of my favorite cards from the Stamp-a-Stack.

I'm also really liking the Sale-a-bration set: Outlined Occasions. That's where the sentiment came from on the blue card. I think you'll be seeing lots of projects with this set. Since I got my "Big wish" then this card needed to say thanks. And the punched shapes from the Doily Triple Layer Punch sure do look like snowflakes.  The snowflakes are popped up on Dimensionals.

You can get all the supplies used on these cards from my Stampin'UP! store. AND you can shop online 24/7. Click HERE to shop.

Things to remember:
  • Earn Customer Loyalty Points: If you're shopping on-line you can earn Customer Loyalty Points from me. See the post about the Customer Loyalty program.
  • Sale-a-bration starts January 24th. Every $50 you spend during Sale-a-bration will earn you a free item from the Sale-a-bration catalog. My customers should have already received their SAB catalog in the mail. Contact me if you don't have one yet.
  • Hostesses earn even more. Contact me today to schedule your Sale-a-bration event. The added bonus from Stampin'UP! makes Sale-a-bration the perfect time to introduce your friends to the fun of stamping.

I take an active role with my hostesses so we can create a successful event for you. My January calendar is full and I am now scheduling events for February and March.

Remember When We Actually Had Snow?

Card made with Stampin'UP!'s Jolly Jingle Bits and Word Play stamps and the 1
This has been the weirdest winter! Really, who can remember when its been January in Wisconsin with NO SNOW! I've been designing all my January event cards in the (apparently mistaken) belief that this was winter. I remember when we had 3 feet of snow on the ground and the snow plows had piled it up even higher along the roads.

The good thing is that the roads are safer.
The bad thing is that we can't enjoy our winter sports.

The images on this card are from a set called Jolly Bingo Bits. All the tiny images in this set are intended to fit into the grid of our Bingo Card Stamp. Click the image to the left to see this set larger

Card made with Stampin'UP!'s Jolly Jingle Bits and Word Play stamps and the 1Do you sometimes accidentally get a line on your project from the edge of your stamp?  This happens when you get ink on the edge of the stamp and then it transfers to your project. Its a bigger problem with smaller stamps. It happens because we rock the stamp and the larger stamps are more stable.

Here's how to avoid the problem - ink the stamp with a marker! Then you can control where the ink goes and ensure there is none on the edge. And the bonus here is that by using markers I could color the snowman's scarf a different color. Pretty tricky!

Do you like the Postage Stamp look of this card?  It was really easy to do with the 1" square punch and our Postage Stamp punch.

    supplies used on this project:
Stamp Set: Word Play, wood mount #120308, clear mount #120651
Stamp Set: Jolly Jingle Bits, wood mount #120857, clear mount #121187
    Punch: 1" square, #124094
    Punch: Postage Stamp, #122344
Colors: Pacific Point, Real Red, Lucky Limeade

You can get these supplies and  all your stamping needs in my on-line store.

Mixed Bunch and the New Blossom Punch

There is a New Punch in the Occasions Mini. Its called the Blossom Punch. Its a nice big flower shape and I really like that the petals have some scallops to them. It makes it more elegant and more delicate than the other large flower punches. We now have a mixed bunch of flower punches.

We used this punch at my last demo meeting. The great thing about the demo meetings is that we get to use product that we might not own yet. I'm always more confident buying something when I've already had a chance to play with it.

Here are 2 of the cards we made. And - of course - Stampin'UP! is supporting the new punch with a Stamp set: this one is called Mixed Bunch. The new punch works with all three of the large flower images. (you can click on the cards to see them larger)

Its so much fun when the new catalog comes out. And I try to make it FUN for you when you stamp with me. I totally love playing with the new stuff. Between yesterday and today I made 16 different cards. Some will be for the Stamp-a-Stack this weekend, some are for the Valentines Camp and some are for the Community Classes. Two of them are for demonstrator trades.

You'll be seeing some of them here on the blog over the next few weeks. But I'll still be creating during that time too so some may never make it to the blog. The way to ensure that you DO get to see all the samples is to come to one of my events. You can check the events schedule AND you can also register online HERE on my events calendar.

Baby Prints from the New Occasions Mini

Card made with the Stampin'UP!'s new Baby Prints stamp set and Nursery Nest Designer Paper
There is a cute new Baby Stamp set in the New Occasions Mini catalog. Its called Baby Prints. I used it on my trade card for my last upline meeting.

The paper on this card is called Nursery Nest. I love these soft and muted colors. The combination goes really well together: Pear Pizzaz, Blushing Bride, Marina Mist and Perfect Plum.

At this event we each designed a card and brought enough parts for everyone else to make each of our cards. I was a little worried that I wouldn't have enough paper.

First: I was afraid I wouldn't have enough of the designer paper - each package has 2 12x12 sheets and I worried that 2 sheets would not be enough for everyone to make the same card.

Second: I worried about the color and that people might get stuck making a card for the wrong sex baby (blue vs pink)

But all the paper in this package is so cute, and of course they're all double sided. I just cut up several different designs from the pack and let people choose which one they wanted to make.

Card made with the Stampin'UP!'s new Baby Prints stamp set and Nursery Nest Designer Paper  Card made with the Stampin'UP!'s new Baby Prints stamp set and Nursery Nest Designer Paper Card made with the Stampin'UP!'s new Baby Prints stamp set and Nursery Nest Designer Paper

There are many ways to embellish a card. Printed designer papers are one way as you can see above. This card also uses glimmer brads and some ruffled ribbon. One of the advantages of getting your supplies all from the same company is color coordination. You never have to guess whether or not the colors will match. The main cards stock, the designer colors, the ribbons, the brads - everything matches.

The Ruffled Ribbon is so pretty. I love the ruffled edges with the ridged center strip.  And the little row of faux stitching just makes the whole thing kind of elegant in a homespun way. Does that sound weird using those adjectives together?  Anyway, I like it.

And the glimmer brads - WOW! They just add a fun sparkle to any project.  Again I worried that I wouldn't have enough brads all the same color. The glimmer brads are sold as an assortment of 5 colors, 40 to a package, so I just put out the whole container and let people pick which one they wanted. It all worked out and everyone loved all the cards.  What do you think?  Leave a comment below.

    Apothecary Art and Framelit Nestables

The new Occasions Mini is now live. The mini catalogs are used as a way to offer seasonal merchandise as well as to introduce new product and this mini catalog has some great stuff.

Nestables are here! Stampin'UP!'s new nestable dies, the Sizzix Framelits. And true to tradition, Stampin'UP! is supporting this new tool with matching stamp sets. This card is made with the Labels Framelits and the matching stamp set called Apothecary Art.

We made these little 3x3 gift cards at my last demonstrator meeting. I was so excited by how super easy they are to use. I can't wait to show them off at the Stamp-a-Stack this weekend

By the way have you registered yet?  You can see the events calendar AND register online HERE

I am really loving these framelits. The Framelits are just that - frames. You can stamp your image and lay the frame over it. Because its just a frame you can see through the middle to get your stamped image lined up perfectly.

      Clearance RAck Blitz Ends Soon

The Clearance Rack Blitz ends January 5th. Be sure to check out the items on the Clearance Rack. There are some deeply discounted items on the list - some up to 80%!  You may find the treasure you've been looking for.

If you checked the list early in the Blitz you should definitely check again. Stampin'UP! has added a few items. And of course, many of the things originally on the list are already sold out.

Someone asked me "What happens to the items that don't get sold?"  The answer is: some blitz items may remain in the Clearance Rack, while others may be removed and reappear at an designated time in the future.

Since you are viewing this online, you may as well place your order online
      • Its safe, secure and fun!
      • And every $25 you spend earns you Customer Loyalty points from me. See details here.
