Zany Zebras with a Sentiment Framed Corner

With my card today I wanted to focus on framing the focal point.
These little Zany Zebras are so cute and playful, kicking up their heels.
I wanted something equally playful to frame them

 

Setting the card layers at an angle adds to the playful look of the card.
The black matte dots and flower help lead your eye across the card
. . . but the corners were very bare.

The solution was to use the sentiments
to create a frame for the zebras.

However! these were red-rubber stamps.
Using a stamp positioning tool like the Stamparatus
was absolutely essential
to getting symmetrical, straight sentiment placement.

The Stamparatus also made the process easier with placement of the zebras
I could lay them both on the card and play with their positions
Then close the lid to mount them to the plate and they were ready to stamp.

 

Those Zany Zebras are cute enough on their own
but look closely and you'll see several things done
to make them even more special.

A subtle splash of color in the ear to balance the pinks
Wink of Stella glitter brush over their whole body
and - check out the eye and hooves

 

See the shine on the hooves and the glisten in the eye

Country Home Color Challenge

 

Time for another color combo challenge entry.  Each month we're given a set of colors and challenged to create a project with a given set of colors.  This month's colors are Pineapple Punch, Highland Heather and Sahara Sand.  The colors are quite different from each other, yet all seemed somewhat muted and neutral. I chose to use the Country Home stamp set to showcase a pitcher full of foliage.

Along with some really beautiful floral images, the Country Home Stamp Set also has a very interesting geometric shape. I used this shape to stamp the purple strip on the left side of the card.

The only possible way to get perfect alignment of a geometric image like this is to use a hinged stamp positioner with multiple hinge positions. While there are many different manufacturers of stamp positioning tools, to get this kind of perfect placement you really need the option for multiple hinge positions. Stampin'UP!'s Stamparatus has the option to shift hinge positions of the stamping plate.

The focus of this project was to showcase the color combination. So rather than stamp the floral sprays from the stamp set, I chose instead to punch some floral springs from the Pineapple Punch and Highland Heather cardstock and to fussy cut the pitcher from the Sahara Sand.

Let it Ride in Motion

This card with the majestic horse from Stampin'UP!'s Let it Ride stamp set shows and old technique with a new tool.  By stamping off we can create the illusion of motion, the horse looks like he's running across the card.

The concept is easy.  Each time you stamp without re-inking, the image is lighter than the one before.  To create the illusion of motion you stamp the first time where you want the final position to be and work backwards to where the image would have begun its path. I wanted the final position of the horse on the right so that's where I stamped first.

In this close-up that front horse really stands out.  To make him stand out even more I covered the whole image with clear Wink of Stella. My kids had lots of My Little Ponys growing up so I'm thinking sparkly instead of sweaty.  But given he's a horse in motion sweat is more likely.  The Wink of Stella really does add to the look of the card.  In fact I use Wink of Stells so much that I consider the Wink of Stella pen to be one of the basic supply items in my craft room.  (product links are at the end of the post)

I used my Stamparatus on this card, that's why the horses are so perfectly spaced.  After stamping the first horse I simply repositioned the stamping plate over one hinge position and stamped a 2nd time and then positioned it over one more hinge position to stamp the 3rd time. Easy peasy quick and easy.

Here is another card made with the same concept.  This one uses the bicycle image from Enjoy Life.
