I love the high contrast of bright colors against black; and heat embossing helps to give even more contrast. This was a card from our April Technique class which focused on heat embossing.
While contrast is good, you don't want to over do it. I did make this card with a plain background but decided it was too much flat black. If you look closely at the card you'll see I used a very subtle background stamp to break up the solidness of the card front. Versamark Ink leaves a subtle watermark image on cardstock that was just right for the image from Stampin'UP!'s Crackle Paint background stamp. This background technique really makes a difference visually.
The reason for heat embossing was for even more visual impact. This close-up shows how the heat embossing helps with the contrast on the Coral Cardstock.
HINT: If you use clear embossing powder you can heat emboss in any color. You just need ink "gooey" enough to hold the powder in place while you heat set it.
I used Memento Black Ink with the Clear Embossing Powder on this flower. Memento Ink is not advertised as an embossing ink, but I found that it worked just fine. There is a complete list of products used on this card at the end of the post.I
