Gold Embossed Thank-you

Gorgeous Gold Embossing - It adds such a classy look to a project.

Gold embossed image from Stampin'UP!'s Seasonally Scattered stamp set.

Are you a fan of heat embossing? For those who haven't done heat embossing the concept is simple.  You stamp the image with a "gooey" ink. Then you sprinkle embossing powder onto the wet image and heat emboss.  The heating process melts the powder into the paper. The result is the raised embossed image with a shiny finish.

This image was stamped with Encore Metallics ink and embossed with Gold Embossing Powder.

No! you can't use a hair dryer. You need a heat tool made for embossing. The temperature from a hair blower isn't hot enough and the fan is too strong and will blow the ink off the page before its set.
Gold embossed image from Stampin'UP!'s Seasonally Scattered stamp set.

Stampin'UP!'s Seasonally Scattered stamp set.

The image on this card is from a set called Seasonally Scattered. This is a really interesting set because the letters themselves are not inked. The image of the word is created by the scattered images behind them. Clear mount $17.95 or Wood mount $24.95

  • Merry with scattered snowflakes
  • thanks with scattered leaves and vines
  • Love with scattered dots

Oops, I forgot to show you the whole card.  Here it is - finished off with some Crumb Cake seam binding and a little bit of Gold Glimmer paper punched with the Dotted Scallop Ribbon border punch

The neutral colors and gold glimmer paper give this project a very upscale look, but the gold embossing adds that final level of elegance.

Thanks for stopping by . . . I hope you're inspired to try some heat embossing.

Fall Leaves cut with the Autumn Accents Die

Traveling the interstate yesterday I noticed the leaves turning color already. Fall is definitely in the air. If you're like me you get lots of inspiration from nature and here in Wisconsin autumn brings us a wonderful color display.
Card made with Stampin'UP! Autumn Accents die & For All Things Stamp Set

This colorful fall card was stamped with the leaf and sentiment from the For All Things stamp set. Clear Mount $17.95 or Wood Mount $24.95To get the 'mottled' leaf images for the background I "stamped off"  on scrap paper before stamping on the project.

The leaves were cut using Stampin'UP!'s Autumn Accents die. The colors here are So Saffron, Crushed Curry, Hello Honey and Cajun Craze.

Vivid Vases Colored With Blendabilities

Vivid is the word that comes to mind when I see these vases . . . and for 2 reasons:
The colors are vivid   - - and - -   the stamp set is called Vivid Vases

Card made with Stampin'UP!'s Vivid Vases Stamp and colored with the Blendabilities alcohol markers
This card was shared by Joyce Hall from Hudson, WI

Joyce colored the vases using Stampin'UP!'s new Blendabilities MarkersBlendabilities are alcohol markers and they were especially designed for shading and blending colors. Notice the subtle color highlights on the vases.

Yesterday's post gives more detail on the differences between water based markers and alcohol markers. But the bottom line is that alcohol markers are perfect for coloring images like these vases and giving the image a sense of dimension. These vases almost look like they're curving.

Stampin'UP!'s Vivid Vases Stamp and colored with the Blendabilities alcohol markers

Stampin'UP!'s Vivid Vases Stamp
Vivid Vases is sold as a single wood mount stamp.
item #133818 for $11.95

A stamp like Vivid Vases is a good one to use when you want to play with the new alcohol markers.
**The flowers offer the chance to play with different colors
**and the vases give you a chance to play with an image
    of something curved

Vivid Vases is such a lovely image.

Here's another photo of the Vivid Vases flowers. These were colored with the water-based markers and you can see the difference you get in coverage.

A little Dazzling Details glitter glue
sure helps jazz up a project, yes?!

Thanks for stopping by, I hope you've been inspired to try a little coloring.

Blendabilities: Alcohol Markers Make a Smoother Image

Stampin'UP! has a new line of markers: Blendabilities! Blendabilities are alcohol markers, especially designed for blending colors. Alcohol markers make a much smoother image when coloring. If you're someone who likes to color in a line image then you're going to absolutely love these new markers.

Stampin'UP!'s Blended Bloom Stamp
Card made with Stampin'UP!'s Blended Bloom stamp and colored with the new Blendability alcohol markers.
Card made by Suzanne Askey

made with Stampin'UP!'s Blended Bloom stamp and colored with the new Blendability alcohol markers. The stamp used here is Blended Bloom, which is a very pretty line image, and perfect for coloring with markers. Just look how well the colors blend here.

Alcohol Markers are easier to blend
because of the nature of the inks.
  • With water based inks  the color quickly sinks into the paper and the pigment becomes embedded in the fibers.
  • With alcohol inks the pigment sits on top the paper and is easily pushed around for smoother blending.

And the best thing about these new Blendability Markers
is they match Stampin'UP!'s fabulous colors!

Stampin'UP! sells the Blendabilities in sets of three.
Pick your color and get 3 markers - medium, dark and light -
and ensure that everything matches: inks, paper, and embellishments.
Stampin'UP!'s Blendability Alcohol Markers
Color matching is very important to me in my crafting. so I was really excited when Stampin'UP! announced they'd be selling alcohol markers. The name 'Blendatilibites' just says it all. If you haven't tried alcohol markers yet you're going to be very impressed.

Punch Art Vase with the Label Punch

Card made with images from the Wetlands Stamp set and a Punch Art Vase made with the Artisan Label Punch

Are you a fan of punch art? The vase on this card was made with the Artisan Label Punch.
Stampin'UP!'s Artisan Label Punch

Card mde with Stampin'UP!'s Label Love stamp set and Artisan Label Punch
The punch was designed to go with a stamp set called Label Love.

The card from Saturday's post used the Label punch with its matching stamp set.

Punches are great tools, they're also really versatile.  Its fun to look at a shape and think of different ways to use it.

To make this Punch Art Vase I rotated the punched piece 90 degrees, then scored 4 lines and sponged on some ink to give it some dimension.

Coordinated Color with the "Stamping Off" Technique

Explanation of the "Stamping Off" TechniqueStamping Off? Are you familiar with this technique? You'd use this technique when you want a lighter image.

  • Ink the stamp.
  • Stamp once on scrap paper to lose some of the ink. this is the "stamping off" part
  • then without re-inking, stamp on your project. You'll get a lighter image.

I used "stamping off" on yesterday's fall card because, while I did want the Rich Razzleberry color, the color would have been too intense if I'd left the stamp at full strength ink. See more examples of stamping off here.

Fall Card made with Stampin'UP!'s Gorgeous Grunge Stamp Set - Stamped Off
Here's the whole card again, you can see why it was important to stamp off to keep the splotches part of the background.  Full strength would have overwhelmed the card.

Color Coordination:  Even though the image has been stamped off, look how perfectly the colors match: the paper, the ink and the Washi Tape.

Color matching is one advantage of getting all your stamping supplies from one company. You're guaranteed that everything coordinates: papers, inks, ribbons, other embellishments like buttons, brads . . . everything is color coordinated.

and start planning your next project now.

Gorgeous Grunge Makes a Gorgeous Fall Card

When someone says "fall card" what do you think of?  The colors? The images (leaves/acorns/wheat and grunge)? Or maybe its the multitude of textures?  This gorgeous fall card has all three.
Fall Card made with Stampin'UP!'s Gorgeous Grunge Stamp Set

Really pretty fall color combo: what colors do you use for fall?  oranges, reds, browns?
For this card I used:  Crumb Cake - - Rich Razzleberry - - Crushed Curry

Fall Card made with Stampin'UP!'s Gorgeous Grunge Stamp Set

Rich variety of textures: An outdoor fall scene has so much texture from fresh wet leaves, spikey seed pods, soft airborne seeds and splatters of mud. On this card I included as much texture as I could.
  *Burlap Ribbon
  *Linen Thread
  *Color Me Autumn Washi Tape
  *Sentiment "popped up"
    with Dimensionals

BTW: Washi Tape is a quick and easy way to add some color to a project. And the torn ends on mine add to the "grunge" look of the card.

You can see Stampin'UP!'s selection of Washi Tape here.

Stampin'UP!'s Gorgeous Grunge Stamp SetThe images on this card are from a set
called Gorgeous Grunge.

Just look at that variety! This is a great set for making backgrounds on  all kinds of cards.

What kind of "feel" do you want for your card?
*Feeling casual and messy?
*In a hurry?
*Want to emphasize something?
*Going with distinct geometrics?

This set can really do a lot!

Masculine Wetlands Card

If you're like me you sometimes struggle to find a good masculine stamp set.
Have you see this one? Its called Wetlands.

We're using the Wetlands stamp set in class this month.
and its even available as a digital set item #138003

Here is the card I designed along with several made by people in class.
Card made with Stampin'UP!'s Wetlands stamp set. Card made with Stampin'UP!'s Wetlands stamp set.

People changed the sentiment, altered the angle of the main image, changed up the way the banners were attached on the sentiment. Some put the sentiment on the inside instead of the front, different amounts of color with the sponging . . .

Lindy is showing off her version. How would you have done yours? Are you signed up for class next week? Tuesday in Verona and Thursday in Monona.  Its all about being creative and having fun. Why not sign-up with a friend to share the fun.

Here's another sample of a card with the Wetlands Stamp Set,
this one was made by my friend Peggy Hallmark
